Gawad Kalinga kids in Naga, Cebu We went to naga, cebu to conduct a feeding program to this kids. this kids are not black americans, they came from a tribe called "Aeta". One theory suggests that the Aeta are the descendants of the original inhabitants of the Philippines, who, contrary to their sea-faring Austronesian neighbors, arrived through land bridges that linked the country with the Asian mainland about 30,000 years ago. Unlike many of their Austronesian counterparts, the Aetas have shown resistance to change. While resisting change from the other society for hundreds of years, the Aetas have adjusted to social, economic, cultural, and political pressures with remarkable resilience; they have created systems and structures within their culture to cushion the sudden impact of change.
Mt

. Pinatubo had its ultra-
Plinian eruption in June 1991 which produced the second largest terrestrial eruption of the 20th century (after the 1912 eruption of Novarupta) and the largest eruption in living memory. Successful predictions of the onset of the climactic eruption led to the evacuation of tens of thousands of people from the surrounding areas, saving many lives, but surrounding areas were severely damaged by
pyroclastic flows, ash deposits, and later by
lahars caused by rainwater remobilizing earlier volcanic deposits: thousands of houses and other buildings were destroyed. The effects of the eruption were felt worldwide.Global temperatures dropped by about 0.5
°C (0.9
°F), and
ozone depletion temporarily increased substantially. Many of the Aetas of Zambales (one of the surrounding provinces of Mt. Pinatubo) migrated to the
different parts of the Phillipines and this Aetas decided to
migrate in Cebu and found their home ground inNaga, Cebu.

I felt pity for this kids when we came there. There was no school around the area before but the Gawad Kalinga provided a day care center for the kids and the volunteer teacher comes there everyday. We gave them food and ice cream and they were very happy during that moment. We also gave them bags and school supplies. We also gave them toothbrushes and taught them how to brush. It was so funny yet it touched my heart when they gargled and swallowed the water after brushing their teeth.
